Renewable Energy

Renewable energy offers consistent electricity and fuel diversity, enhancing energy security, reducing the danger of fuel leaks, and reducing the demand for imported fuels. Renewable energy also contributes to the conservation of the country’s natural resources.They do not emit toxins into the atmosphere, resulting in a cleaner and healthier environment. Renewable energy sources can be found all over the world and cannot be eliminated. Using fossil fuels in heavily populated areas can lead to health risks. In New York City, in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, asthma and other respiratory illnesses. New York City with a population of 8.82 million, a borough having respiratory issues is a concern for the city.

Pollution sources such as diesel bus depots, large commercial highways, and dilapidated public housing, which is frequently infested with cockroaches and rats, disproportionately affect low-income communities. The South Bronx and Northern Manhattan have one of the worst rates of asthma mortality and sickness in the country. Childhood asthma is the leading cause of emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and fatalities in these communities. Children and young adults in New York City have one of the highest rates of asthma hospitalizations and fatalities in the country, with African American and Latino patients accounting for more than 80% of the cases.

Relevant authorities should seek to introduce renewable energy to upper Manhattan and the Bronxt o reduce the pollution in those areas. As found from the research, asthma is a respiratory disease associated with allergies from pollutants in the environment. This statement means that the higher number of diseases and deaths from asthma in these areas may be as result of the increase in pollution in the environment. Industries and other machinery that is commonly found in these areas use fossil fuels which increase emission of toxic gases to the atmosphere. In the same fashion, the people from these areas cannot afford to set up stations for tapping renewable sources thus leaving the task to the relevant authorities (Mahrol, 2018). Just like part of New York City is using geothermal power in large quantities (78 percent) and wind power, these areas should receive power from these sources too. Additionally, New York City is one of the largest cities that harnesses renewable energy in large quantities therefore allowing it chances of a clean environment. The world health organization should look keenly through the two states, South Bronx and Northern Manhattan, to ensure that even if the people there are poor, they still get protected from avoidable pollutants such as congestion of Public Service Vehicles. Renewable sources have little or no pollution effects since the process is safer. These steps will enable the public to see dangers of using fossil fuel and manifest the importance of renewable energy sources to the people (Why Clean Energy is Important, 2021). In turn, people see the impacts of pollution to their health and property and opt to change because of its dangers.

Wind turbines can be placed on the top of the high buildings of NYC. Since the area is overly populated, having turbines on the ground would be inconvenient for the city’s structure. Miniature wind turbines can be utilized to create small quantities of power while also making a statement about renewable energy, but they are nowhere near the top of the list when it comes to making the city greener. The largest reward comes from reducing building electricity usage, which accounts for about three-quarters of the city’s greenhouse-gas emissions. Windfarms on a large scale can also make a difference; the state’s Energy Research and Development Authority is developing a proposal for turbines off the shore of Long Island. This can ensure that New York City will still continue to get the energy needed to run the city.

However, renewable sources of energy require a lot of capital for their stations to be set. People may have the willingness to change and use renewable energy sources but the cost of setting up stations such as geothermal and wind stations are relatively expensive when compared to other sources of energy. There are other pollutants such as nuclear energy that are hard to detect thus causing terminal diseases such as cancer to people. Nuclear energy is a form of non-renewable energy from uranium. This energy is considered non-renewable because uranium is scarcely distributed over the earth’s surface. People of South Bronx and Northern Manhattan ought to seek a greener environment but through resilience since there are challenges that may obscure their efforts to attain their goal. Renewable sources of energy may be the only solution to reducing the disease and death rates in the South Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We should seek to understand much about the dangers of non renewable energy and the advantages of renewable energy.
